On the Mend

Guess what we did yesterday?
We went to the V.E.T. again!
That is 3 times in a week...what is this world coming to?
I've told you this before but my pawrents are pawranoid! It was apparent that I was in pain when they took me to the V.E.T. on Thursday but I wasn't quite sick enough to tell exactly what was going on. I was refusing food, any and all food that was offered to me! Those of you who have known me for a while know that means something is seriously wrong! Mom tried giving me canned food, cheese, peanut butter, treats (even my favorite ones from Bijou), she even scrambled an egg....I wouldn't take any of it. I just turned my nose away. But then she whipped out the ultimate temptation, chicken jerky. I still wasn't interested in eating it but I took it from her and carried it in my mouth.
After I sat with it for a few minutes, I asked Mom to put me on the couch and then I went back to sleep. It is still laying on my blankie on the floor.
Friday night I started having runny poops....all night long. Momma and Daddy had to help me on and off the bed several times. Good thing we have some puppy pads around here for things like this. It was way too cold out to go outside in the middle of the night while being sick.
So, we went back to see the doctor Saturday morning. Not only had I not been eating but I hadn't been drinking either. They took my blood (Did you know they had vampires there?), gave me some fluids under my skin, gave me a shot to help my tummy, and put me on 2 more medicines. Apparently I have some bacterial overgrowth in my tummy which gives me some sort of infection.
I still refused to eat anything last night and then Mom got an idea. She doesn't get those often either. She thought since I showed some interest in the chicken jerky she would boil some chicken breasts for me. ;o) She gave me a few bites of it and I must admit that was pretty tasty. I think she hid some of my pills in it but that is better than Daddy holding me and Momma shoving those things down my throat.
I only had runny poops one time last night and I ate some more chicken this morning. I only eat a few bites of it and then I am done but at least I am eating, right? Remember I said earlier that I wasn't drinking anything? Well, Mom kept the water she boiled the chicken in and, let me tell you, that tastes so much better than regular water!
So, I am not well yet but I am starting to feel better.
We are still having trouble with our internet connection; we couldn't get online at all yesterday. We live in a townhouse and the way Mom understands it (scary) is that they split the cable line over and over. So, if a lot of others are using the web in our neighborhood it is hard for us to get things to load. That explains why we are always behind on your blogs....it takes forever for pages to load. Anyone out there have any ideas how to remedy this? It has gotten significantly worse lately.

Hi Twixie,

Glad to hear you went to vet again and they were able to help. Sounds like your mom had some great ideas about chicken and the water!

Feel better and keep resting.

Oh Sweetie you look so sad and sickie. I am sooo sorry you have been feeling so bad. At least you are eating and drinking a bit. That will help to make your meds work.
I have my paws crossed that you will be 87 bazillion percent better by tomorrow. Love and kisses.

Poor Twixie!!! Tummy aches are never a god thing. When Mom has to give us medicine, she puts it in a piece of AMerican cheese first. Goes down much better.

When we have the running poops, Mom gives us some canned pumpkin, the stuff without the spices. Usually a tablespoon mixed with dry kibble for a couple of days helps everything.

Hey Twix,

God job getting the human to cook for you. I really hope you get to feeling better REAL soon. But if you ACT like you still are sickie you will keep getting yummies from the humans. (They're simple like that!)

Hi Twix, I hope you get better soon. I am glad to hear you are starting on the mend. I know you don't like the vet but your Mom and Dad know that the V.E.T can help. Hang in there OK? Keeping your Grandma in prayer too that her next round of treatment will go well.

Hi, Twix!
I am so sorry you had to go to the Vet again but yes... they do it because they love you a lot and want (like we all) that you get better soon!
Glad your mom had the idea of the chicken. It is very good for your tummy!
We had the same problem with the old internet. It was provided by a cable company. We changed it to a phone company and it works pretty well now.
Take care and have a good night.
Kisses and hugs

Hi Twix !

We are glad that you are feeling a little better, if you are still giving your mom trouble about eating, ask her to heat your chicken up, even if it is in the microwave. Warm food smells more and it might make you hungry, I microwave Sadie's food all the time.

As for your internet you could check to see if DSL is available in your area, we had DSL through Verizon but the cable worked better for us.
It is true that the more cable is spliced the quality is lower, it might even affect your TV.

You might want to ask the VET about Pedialyte. It's this fruity flavored drink (or powder) to help restore electrolytes to your body when you can't keep foods down or you have runny poops. It's for human babies, but I've used it with Andy before as the vet allows. Also, a dropper or syringe is great for getting liquids in when dogs would rather not drink them! Great idea with the chicken and broth. Hope you're doing better soon! =) (You've got to patrol for those reindeer this weekend, remember?)
