Another Update

Hi everyone! Mom here. Thank you so much for your concern for our little girl. We are very fortunate to have such caring friends.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Twix is doing okay at this point. It is fairly obvious that she doesn't feel good but she is starting to have a little more energy. She is eating a little bit of food at a time (2-3 times a day). Normally she would snarf down whatever canned food was put in front of her but now she eats some and then walks away. As long as she is eating and keeping it down I am happy.
I don't really understand why she has inflammation in her stomach/intestines. The vet said she could have inflammatory bowel disease (dogs get that?) and if this happens again we might have to put her on steroids. The other thing he said is she could have eaten who knows what and it brought on the inflammation. Because of the pancreatitis, we know we have to be careful about what she eats but these low dogs always have their nose in the ground and have eaten something before you can even see what it is. We try to be careful when we walk her but unfortunately, her nose picks up those scents way before ours does!
I do think maybe we tend to worry a little more than we should when she gets an upset tummy because of her past with pancreatitis. I have had dogs all my life and have never seen a dog as sick as she was. And, I certainly have never heard of a dog being in the hospital for a week over an illness. On her previous post she mentioned what the vet said when she gave me Twix's bill at that time.....let me tell you, that really brought things into perspective. I knew she was really sick and we also knew she might not make it but I NEVER realized the vet didn't think she would live through her bout of pancreatitis. The vet even said to me, "Now you know where the phrase sick as a dog comes from."
Again, thank you so much for your words of encouragement and for listening to me ramble via Twix's blog. I am very behind on all of your blogs so please be patient with me. I will try to get caught up when I can.
I told Twix she was gonna have to get a job because we have laid out quite a bit of money in the past 10 days! She just looked at me with her sad eyes........

I'm so glad that Twix is feeling a little better.
Now she has to be a good girl, and even though is hard, she has to try not to eat so many things that she is not suppose to.
Heres hoping that her nose doesn't get carried away.

Thanks for the update, we are glad she is eating. Hopefully a few days of meds and food will help. IBD is a lot more common in dogs than we think. Just heard of another pup who might have it too and steroids seem to be helping and a special prescription food. Paws crossed for a good report tomorrow.

Hugs, the OP Pack

Hope to keep hearing news about your improvement Twix! One of my greyhound cousins has has a few bouts of pancreatitis/IBD, and has to be VERY careful about what he eats. He has been on steroids several times, and they never have figured out what causes it... So frustrating for his mommy!! Hope you can get better without having to swallow yucky pills!!

Snorts & Frechie Kisses for your continued recovers-

I hope the meds help Twix to be fully recovered soon! It is not fun to be sick!
You are so right. Being our nose and mouth at almost ground level does not help with things we sould not eat!
Take care
Kisses and hugs to Twix, Mom and Dad!

Glad for the update - and very glad to hear that things are going better. (Note from Fi's Mom: vet bills.... ugh... my vet and I have a running joke that we're buying him a 100ft yacht; however, given TaiChi's latest issues, I have just accepted the fact that she is my daughter, and since I'm not paying to send her to college, I can't really argue with the vet bills - besides, I can't put a price on her health - and TaiChi is too old to get a job! And I hope that didn't sound preachy - I'm just commiserating! Hugs to you and Twix!)

oh Twixie - I'm so sorry that you've not been feeling well - I know all about those tummy issues - my mom watches every bite I take - i'm not allowed any chewy things like rawhide or greenies because of my liver/tummy issues - take care and get lots of rest - maybe your mommy will buy you some yogurt drops - they're really good treats and don't upset tummies

Hi, Twix...

I'm glad you are feeling a little better...Please be really careful & only eat what your Mom gives you...OK?

My Mom says she understands how scary this is for your Mom...My Mom says she was soooo scared when I had Pancreatitis...And, now she watches everthing I eat, too...

She agrees that sometimes it's hard cuz we "shorter" pups do eat stuff before our Mom's even know what it is...

My paws are crossed that you feel lots better really soon...

It is great to hear that our furiend is eating some. It is a good sign that she is even eating at all, even if it is only little bits at a time. When our tummy is really upset we don't like to eat our own food either and we are canine garbage disposals! We hope that Twix continues to get better. We are all thinking of you both.

Glad there's some improvement. Twix can always sell ads on her blog, if she needs a little extra greenbacks. Weiner dogs, however, do not adjust well to the 8-5 gigs. They don't have time for the 20 naps a day they need with that schedule! =)

I am relieved to hear you are feeling better. I know it is hard to do, but please leave those "goodies" you find on the ground alone from now on! Mom once had a foster dog with the same problem, the dog had been picked up as a stray and had been eating no telling what. The poor thing was sick for a long time but finally got better. Good thing mom didn't have to pay that vet bill!

Get well soon!

Oh boy. I hope twix keeps eating her food and gets better. I think IBD in dogs is the same as in humans in the sense that it's a catch-all for all unknown intestinal disorders (don't quote me on that, though). Hugs and kisses for all of you.
