A Note from Mom

Hi all! I just realized that it has been a week since I helped Twix put up a new post.
She walked right up to me and told me I was a slacker!
 Can you believe that?
 She has some nerve, huh?

Truth is, I have been slacking on blogging lately. Not just with our posts but also with commenting. I do have a good reason, I have been trying to research what is going on with my girl. Most of our followers know that Twix has had blood in her urine recently. Looking back, I think this has been going on for a couple of months now. Last time we posted about this (here), Twix told you she was taking a second round of antibiotics and we were waiting to see if that cleared it up. She also took a third round of antibiotics for an  even longer time. The medication did not clear it up.

We have been making several trips to the vet lately....so much that I think Twix is starting to hope she doesn't hear the word "ride" ever again. The good news in all this is that she doesn't act like she is in pain or sick at all.  And we know her fur is growing back so that is a positive as well. The last couple of times she was at the vet we did some xrays to see if we could see any bladder or kidney stones and we did not see any.

That sounds good, right?

And I should be happy, right?

I'm not.

It makes me worry that there is something more serious going on and that is what I have been researching which is probably not a good thing for me to be doing right now. As you can imagine, there are lots of things that can go wrong with a dog's kidneys, bladder, and everything in between. I know this could still turn out to be something small and easy to fix but everything inside me is yelling this is bad, very bad. What I read last night that has me the most scared is that if it is some sort of cancer it is usually very advanced by the time there is blood in the urine. And, Twix has a lot of blood in her urine.  The doctor said it looks like kool-aid. At our last visit Monday, she said she doesn't see any masses but they don't necessarily always show up on an xray. She also told us that she doesn't think Twix has cancer because she seems to be getting healthier since we put her on the thyroid meds and most of the time she sees the opposite.....dogs lose weight, have very little energy, and just don't look good in general. She sent off some of Twix's urine for some testing and we are waiting for the results to come back, hopefully before the end of the week.

Needless to say, we could use some prayers
and crossed paws right now.
Thanks to all of you for being our friends and
for your support when we need it!

Sorry, this is kind of a long, depressing post. How about something to make you smile.....

I will let Twix get back to posting when we get some new information from the vet.  Also, we got a surprise in the mail this week and we want to share it with you.

I like to know too! If they find something then they can fix it, right? That's how I think as well, but that doesn't mean we're right. Sometimes we just need to relax and let the kinks work themselves out of the way. I just so hope my Twix pal is one of those cases.
BTW did you really tell me YOU're MIA? Have you seen me around? Crazy summer, and it's been like this since Feb.
Paws crossed for the Twix girly (thanks for smiley photo)

I know full well the scariness of researching, I told you before that I scared myself silly when researching Lilibell's liver issues! But it is also a helpful tool too for when you do get a diagnosis.

We three are praying our hardest that this is just a minor problem for Twix and that everything works out fine for her. And don't worry about not blogging and commenting, we've been slack with our blogging too! Just make sure that you post updates every once in a while so we can keep our minds at ease!

Thanks for the update on our special girl Twix. A little knowledge can be a dangerous thing, but Mom says she would be doing all that research too. Has the vet talked about doing an ultrasound? It can be expensive, but it might give you the answers you need.

Please try to stay upbeat. The improvement in Twix's coat and her overall health are all good signs. We will cross our paws and say our prayers that you get an answer soon and one ghat is fixable.

We will be keeping our basset paws crossed and we just loved the picture of Twix - it did make us smile.
We do sometimes think that humans worry too much whereas we dogs just take each day as it comes.
We don't know about the future so as long as you love us each and every day that is fine with us.

Hi Twix's Mom - has your vet suggested an unltrasound on the bladder? My kitty brother had a problem with urinary blockages caused by his diabetes and the vet wanted to do an ultrasound or an xray to see if there were stones or a tumor. Momma had them do an xray and they didn't see anything. Unfortunately kitty brother Troubles had something really wrong a couple months later and had to go to the rainbow bridge. Momma wishes she had done the ultrasound too because kitty brother probably had bladder cancer and the xray didn't pick it up. I'm not trying to scare you but If your vet can do an ultrasound it would be reassuring to NOT SEE anything. Paws crossed for Twix.

Little Twix! That is scary news and you have to be brave and go to the vet and listen and do whatever you have to in order to get better. And if something is owie, don't try to hide it, OK? Because the humans need to know.

We are all so worried about you and sending our good thoughts.

Hi there - please never apologize for a post like this! I understand where you're coming from and here's the best place to air those feelings! May I suggest that you ask your vet about doing an ultrasound? I'm a vet tech and in my experience, any masses that don't show up on an x-ray may be seen on an ultrasound (IF THEY'RE THERE AT ALL). If your vet doesn't have an ultrasound machine, call around or get a referral to a vet that does have one. It's not that expensive- comparable to the cost of an x-ray. A quick picture inside your baby may at least give you some peace of mind. Sending many positive thoughts your way!
