Its Time!

The time has come! The time to vote!
Mango Minster has started and it is time to vote for your favorite hound dog (me)!
In case you don't remember I entered the hound group with this photo as a Chow Hound!
(as in, I love to eat, give me food!)
Look how cute I am!
I am certainly not trying to sway votes in my favor
but how can you resist?

A Tardy Flower Friday

I'm sorry to be so late with Flower Friday today.
I don't even have a good excuse....I think I will have to talk to my typist (yes, Mom, thats you!) about this.
Now,  if only I could think of a good punishment......
I thought even though it was late everyone needed
to have Flower Friday to remind us to
"THINK SPRING"!
Hoping you have a wonderful weekend!

A Friend's Giveaway

Sharon at Sharon's Paws Create was one of the winners of my first giveaway. Now she is having a giveaway to celebrate some of her firsts: first giveaway won, first year of blogging, first giveaway hosted. She is also celebrating her followers and commentors.
Sharon is an artist and she has some great photos and paintings on her blog. To enter her giveaway all you have to do is leave a comment on this post. I think she is ending her giveaway at the end of the month so you better hurry and check it out. She's got a great picture and painting she is giving away.

Speaking of paws, I was impressed with the amount of feet freaks out there! Yes, I have Frito Feet too. I thought Mom was crazy enough without telling you she says my feet smell like Frito's.
Bijou said her mom tells her her feet stink when they start smelling like Frito's and makes her take a bath.....can you imagine? What kind of house of horrors is going on there?
It seems that most doggies have Frito Feet....Mom thought it was a doxie thing. Besides Bijou's comment, another interesting thing I learned about all our moms is that our feet smell better than theirs do.
One other interesting thing.....Twinkie's mom has a thing about dog butts and is always taking pics of them. Fortunately, Twink said she has never seen her Mom sniff them! Maybe we can get Twink's mom to post some of her doggie booties for us. Who knows, maybe there are other closet dog butt freaks out there, just like all the closet feet freaks I found.
Maybe I should post about embarassing things more often....I'm learning tons of things about your moms....some good and some not so good!
For you Feet Freaks, I have given you another photo of mine.

Maybe I will have to start posting my feeties more often.....what do ya think?

Toes on Tuesday

My mom has this thing about paws.

She is constantly taking pictures of mine.

She sniffs them too.

Then she says they smell good.

I think she stopped taking that medication the doctor gave her......

My Official Entry

After much deliberation, I have decided to enter
Mango Minster 2010.

I have had a hard time deciding which group to enter because I have the potential to fit several of them. But I finally decided to go with my ancestry and enter the hound group. You see, us doxies are hounds. We are scent hounds bred to find badgers and capture them for our owners. Our job was to go into the badger hole and grab that monster with our big teefers and then our owner was supposed to grab our tails and pull us out, badger attached! I have to say, I sure am glad to be a pampered doxie princess and not a badger hunting doxie. I might just have to let go of the badger and bite you if you pull on my tail too hard!
My entry really has nothing to do with the information I just gave to you. I'm hoping the judges will be swayed by my knowledge and inclined to choose me....
don't tell 'em my plan, please.
I am entering the following photo into Mango Minster 2010:

I know, that doesn't look like a badger hunting hound but I was hunting whatever Mom had in her bowl at the time (she says it was an orange). So, instead of being a scent hound, my entry is showing my skills as a
CHOW HOUND!
Those of you who know me, know how much I like food. I will eat anything you put in front of me, except green olives. They are the only thing I refuse to eat. Strangely enough, dill pickles are one of my favorites. I will do just about anything to get food I want as shown in my photo. I have been known to snatch a piece of bread and butter off Daddy's TV tray. He he he! That is sooooo much fun! Not only do I get to eat it (swallow it whole is more like it) but Dad tries to chase me too. I could go on and on about my skills as a chow hound but I don't want to totally destroy the competition with my talents.
Other official entry stuff:
Name: Twix
Gender: spayed female
Group: Hound group
Breed: Dachshund
Blog Address: www.awienerdogblog.blogspot.com
Pee mail address: twixandi (at) gmail (dot) com

Contest entry deadline is this Wednesday January 27th....better hurry to get your photo in!
Good luck to all the entrants!
A special thanks goes out to Mango and Mango Momma for hosting this esteemed event.

Flower Friday

Mom and I dug through the photo archives to find something to help get rid of the winter doldrums.....
I hope this bright and sunny picture made winter seem less like, well umm, winter.
Happy Weekend!

My Funny Animal Story

I've made a new furiend at For the Love of Dogs recently.  As I was looking through her blog I came across a post where she is giving away a beautiful bracelet.  In order to enter the drawing she asks us to tell of our funniest animal encounter or story.  I'm gonna let my mom tell a story about Max for this one.
Please visit her Enter to Win post if you would like to enter the drawing.

Hi everydog and everycat!  I know Twix has introduced you to my previous doxie, Max, seen sitting in this chair:

I apologize if you have seen this photo before, I don't have any other digital images of my Max!

Max was getting on in age and had some health issues. He had to stay in the doggie hospital every now and then.  Well, one time he had gotten sick and was unable to keep anything down and spent a couple days in the hospital. The vet called me and said they had not let him eat for the first day or so and he had eaten that morning and everything seemed ok. So, I went to pick him up after work.
When we got home, I fed him dinner and he threw it up. I picked up the 409 (or whatever I had on hand at the time), sprayed the floor, grabbed some papertowels, turned around and down I went! You know, linoleum is slippery when it is wet. As I lay on the floor I started crying and wondered if it was time to have Max put down. I gathered myself together before any of my roommates got home and proceeded to finish cleaning the floor.
Max and I went to bed and he seemed to be doing ok at that time. About 4:00 in the morning I felt that familiar heaving of a dog getting ready to toss their cookies. I picked Max up and set him on the floor and he vomited what I thought looked like his intestines. Keep in mind it is 4 a.m. and I had been sound asleep. By the time I was able to turn on a light, I was totally freaking out! I'm thinking my baby is dieing right in front of me.
I went to get something to clean up the mess with, again in tears, and finally realized that Max had thrown up a rubber glove.  A rubber glove! If you use your imagination you can see how I thought he was throwing up his intestines, right?
I called the vet the next day and had a "discussion" with them. It seems that when they feed the dogs that are in the hospital, they let the ones that can get out of their kennels roam free for a few minutes while they mix the food. The staff that mixes the food wears.....a rubber glove. Apparently, Max was so hungry because he hadn't eaten for a couple days that when they put the glove (with soft canned food on it) in the trash he snatched it and swallowed it whole. A true Dachshund is all about the food you know. I was very lucky that he threw that up instead of it getting farther into his digestive system....who knows what would have happened then. Fortunately, it wasn't time to have him put down, it was time to laugh at a ridiculous situation!

A Visit to Grandma & Grandpa's House

You guys are such great furiends! Several of you have asked about my Grandma so I decided to share my visit on Saturday with you. But first, a bit of an update.
Grandma started her chemotherapy almost 3 weeks ago. She has been very fortunate in that it hasn't made her extremely sick. She has a very good doctor that has her start taking different medications several days before and after the chemo to treat a lot of the side effects. She has been able to work part time and says the worst part is the fatigue. She will go in for her second chemo treatment this Wednesday.
We were on our way over and I had to stop and make sure Mom and Dad were coming. Man, for people with legs a million times longer than mine they sure are slow.

Here I am trying to shake off the cold...

We're here!

Grandma's doctor told her that her hair would start falling out about 3 weeks after her first treatment. Since my Daddy shaves his head, she asked him to do the honors for her.
I stood guard in front of Grandma and made sure everything went ok.

I also did some snoopervising of Daddy's work.

Grandma and Grandpa have two cats.
This is Gwen.

This is Sammie.

Gwen and I were having a stare down.

I usually bark at cats but for some reason I don't bark at Gwen and no one can quite figure that one out. I do bark at Sammie when I see her.
Here are a couple photos of me and Grandma together:

She doesn't like it too much when I kiss her but I still try!

So, things are going better than we all thought they would for Grandma right now. Thank you so much for your care and concern.

Pup Scout Twix Reporting

My furiends, Captain Crunch and Candy, were out with their mom one day recently when they were attacked by a big huge dog! Can you imagine? Because of the bravery the pups showed, their mom has helped them establish the
Pup Scouts of America!
They even said I could join! And if you would like to join just stop by and leave them a comment letting them know.
Here is our Pup Scout Oath:
Pup Scout Oath:
On the honor of my paw I will do my best
to do my duty to my fur and non-fur community
& to obey the Pup Scout Law
to help other pups and their people at all times
to keep myself in tip top pup condition,
furry aware & ready at a moments notice.
And here is the first merit badge given to all who have taken the oath to join The Pup Scouts of America:

We were even given our very own membership cards!

We will be having our very first Scout meeting on
Thursday, January 21st at I need a sugar fix
I hope to see you there!

I'm Not a Believer

Ok, there, I said it!  I am NOT a believer!

I know some of you may be believers and I don't hold that against you.

These first four photos were taken in Lead, South Dakota.

They had 52 inches of snow and 50 mile an hour winds that caused this monstrosity.

I know you Sibes out there would find this to be great fun but as a balding Dachshund, I don't see anything fun in any of these photos.
I showed you guys this photo the other day.....

This is what it looked like over the weekend.....because we got more snow last week.

Those 2 photos are at my house, not Lead, South Dakota!

I want to be a believer in global warming. Actually, I would like global warming to take over! Imagine that! It would be sunny and warm every day of the year....that would be doxie heaven!
I just don't see any evidence to convince me that global warming is real and that makes me sad :o(
Are you believers?

The New York Dog Shop

The New York Dog Shop found me a while back and
featured me on their blog.  To show my gratitude I wanted to show you some of the original (at least to me) and fun things they have to offer.

First, I fell in love with this PetEx airplane bed!
I let Mom and Dad sleep in the big bed with me but, I have to say, I might actually sleep in a bed this cute!
They call this the Fairmont House but I call it a
Doggie Mansion! It would be so fun to have everyone over to paw-tay in this thing!
Speaking of paw-tay! We all have a DATE NIGHT coming up (date to be announced soon!) since none of the guys could go with us for Ladie's Night.
(If you are new to my blog please feel free to check
out the Ladie's Night post.....it will give you a giggle!)
You guys will need some Dapper Duds for
taking us girls out on the town....

And you guys know how much I hate the rain, right?
I think they made this Dog Umbrella just for me!
OMD! Take a look at these Light Up Shoes!
We can be twice as annoying as the kids who wear them.

They have a section For Humans too!
Here are a couple luggage tags that are just too cute!

Thanks, New York Dog Shop for featuring
me and for carrying such fun products!
